What is the message of Romans 10? ›

Paul lays out the core of the gospel message: salvation by grace alone through faith alone. His intent is to explain the good news of Jesus Christ in accurate and clear terms.

10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. Paul uses the word heart several times in this chapter. In verse 10, it refers to the seat of our being. In earlier Bible texts, the word 'soul' could mean one's entire being.

Christians proclaim what God has done through his Son Jesus. Second, Paul says this word is “near you, on your lips and in your heart” (Romans 10:8). This means that “the word of faith” must be part of everyday life. “Near you” means Christians must live with it in their workplace.

Romans 10:1-17. The theme of the book of Romans is victory, even surpassing victory through Him who loved us. “Nothing can separate us from the love of God which is found in Christ Jesus our Lord,” Paul said. The church in Rome was living in difficult times; difficult and getting worse.

I am calling on You. I pray and ask Jesus to come into my heart and be Lord over my life according to Romans 10:9-10. "If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." I do that now.

God grants salvation to all who confess Jesus as Lord and who call upon the name of God. Paul again affirms that the word of God has not failed. It is fulfilled in Messiah Jesus. “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.”

His point is clear: the people of Israel have been given more than enough knowledge, and so they ought to recognize their Messiah. Despite that stubbornness and failure, God waits, still holding out His hands to His people.

For man believes with his heart and so is justified, and he confesses with his lips and so is saved. ( Rom. 10:9–10) Some Christians cites this passage to support their belief that all you need to do is sincerely accept Jesus Christ one time and that your eternal salvation is guaranteed.

In other words, Christ has already been near to Paul's Jewish readers. They should not continue looking for the Messiah to come down or come up. Instead, they should understand that He has been near them and that the Word of God, and faith, is right in front of them ready to be believed.

Once again, he translates the verse to read that whomever believes in "Him" will not be put to shame. By Him, Paul means that Christ is the precious cornerstone God has laid in Zion. All who trust in this cornerstone, this sure foundation, will be vindicated. The foundation will hold.

God has created one way for people to have relationship with Him, to live life rightly, and to have the assurance of Heaven: we must come to God through Christ. We must accept what He has done on our behalf, and, by faith, place our belief in Him. This was and is a matter of life and death.

Romans 10:9-10 is a popular set of verses in the Christian world in teaching people about salvation. What is typically done with this text is to say that all a person needs to do is confess that Jesus is the Lord and believe and that person will be saved.

Context Summary

Romans 10:1–4 describes Paul's honest desire and prayer for the people of Israel to be saved through faith in Christ. He acknowledges their enthusiasm for God, but that cannot overcome their ignorance about how to reach God's righteousness. It is not through keeping the law; that's impossible.

Romans 10:1-13. Romans 10 continues with a discussion of the correct and incorrect ways to pursue the Lord. Paul explained that his heart's desire was for the salvation of his Jewish brethren. They had missed God's richest blessings, because of their failure to seek God by faith.

The memorial acclamations that follow suggest that "the mystery of faith" refers, in its new context, to "the entire mystery of salvation through Christ's death, resurrection and ascension, which is made present in the celebration of the Eucharist".
