With summer around the corner, it's time to warm up those grills, grab a cold drink and whip out all of your favorite grilling recipes! This is definitely a recipe I use all summer long!

To prepare the pork, you'll need to mix the marinade ahead of time to allow the pork marinade for hours in the fridge. I like letting it in sit in the fridge overnight. So, if you are planning to throw a BBQ with friends and family, get these prepped the day before.

Prepping ahead of time will make grilling a cinch the next day and give you more time to spend with your guests! Everyone will love these delicious pork kabobs!

I served my skewers with homemade Hawaiian macaroni salad and Filipino style pandesal rolls. You can also serve with roasted potatoes, rice, veggies, potato salad, baked beans and more! I will link up some of my favorite side dishes to serve with this recipe below.

Here are the ingredients you need for this recipe:

Thick Cut Pork Chops - If you don't have pork chops, use boneless pork butt or shoulder cut into cubes.

Large Skewers - Soak in water prior to grilling to prevent skewers from burning.

Coca-Cola - Regular co*ke or pepsi both work great.

Brown Sugar - Light or dark brown sugar.

Onion - Red, yellow or white onion.

Soy Sauce - I recommend using low sodium soy sauce but you can use what you have on hand.

Ketchup - Adds a nice sweetness, if you don't have ketchup sup for tomato sauce.

Apple Cider Vinegar - Or you can sub for red wine vinegar.

Garlic Cloves - Fresh garlic is best.

Lemon Juice - Fresh lemon juice is best.

Salt - I used sea salt but you can use your favorite cooking salt.

Black Pepper - Fresh cracked black pepper or ground.

Red Pepper Flakes - Adds a nice spice.

Sriracha - Adds a nice heat to the sauce.

How to make BBQ Pork Skewers with Filipino BBQ Marinade:

Slice each pork chop from the short side into four even strips. You will have 16 strips once you are done slicing all four pork chops.

In a large bowl, combine all of the marinade ingredients. Reserve about a ¼ of the sauce in the fridge for basting later. Toss the pork strips in the remaining marinade. Cover, and place in the fridge for 4+ hours. (This can be done overnight)

To skewer your pork chops: Place 2-4 pork strips on each skewer - longways (As many as you can fit per skewer).

Heat your grill to medium heat. Once the grill is hot, lightly oil the grill and place your pork skewers on. Close the lid to your grill. You want to turn the pork skewers every 3-4 minutes until internal temperature reaches 160 degrees. Baste the skewers in between turns. Every grill is different so make sure you are monitoring the pork and adjust if some are cooking faster than others. Baste the skewers with the remaining sauce.

Remove pork skewers from the grill and serve with your favorite BBQ side dishes!

Recipe Notes:

  • If you do not have pork chops on hand, you can also use a pork shoulder or pork butt cut into strips.
  • This marinade also works excellent on chicken thighs, breasts, drumsticks or beef!
